MAYBE I’M AMAZED

MAYBE I’M AMAZED………at the lack of back up Luzerne County Controller Walter Griffith is getting regarding these wiretap charges. I can’t understand why the County is disassociating itself from the lawsuit and he has to go it alone on legal expenses. In his capacity as Controller he seemed to be (at least to me) to be acting as an agent of the county. Should he not be covered in the errors and omissions area of that policy? Just asking.
WILK's Karel Zubris meets 'The Office' Brian Baumgartner (and Johnny Lucas sound alike) at 'The Office Wrap Party' in Scranton over the weekend. (Photo: WILKFacebook page).
MAYBE I’M AMAZED……….but not really at the warmth and love the cast of “The Office” got from the folks here in NEPA as the 9 year show ends its run on NBC. The events this past weekend brought out the best in our area. And the returning cast, (all of them) seemed to enjoy the adulation. “The Office” in its run never made fun of Scranton. There were more disparaging remarks from national news bibles like The New York Times made about this area than anything the show did. The characters were the showpiece, the city was only the backdrop of the story line. There are those that have said the work situations were exaggerated and no one ever had a boss like Michael Scott or Andy Bernard. I beg to differ. Throughout the first few years of the reign of Michael Scott, I would cringe at some of the stuff the character did. I had bosses like Michael Scott and Andy Bernard. I can’t tell you the number of times I sat in staff meetings with my co-workers mouths agape at just what came from the “captain of our ship”. There are some people who never saw it, never “got it”, hey. To each his own. But this weekend clearly showed that a city in NEPA could be part of pop culture in America and be o worse for the wear.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED………that this traffic stop with Reese Witherspoon just keeps on getting better and better. Now there is tape of her husband and her in the backseat of a police cruiser featuring her husband explaining the error of her ways. He was heard to say, “Look I got pulled over for drunk driving. You shouldn’t have gotten out the car”. Her reply was supposedly “Why?” If I have that much money, or even if I don’t and my main squeeze is an Academy Award Winning actress, I use one four letter word when I’m bound to get in a situation like this: limo.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED……….that the county of Luzerne actually wants a private citizen to pony up over $10,000 grant e mails from the County Council members. This situation is a little iffy to be. Are e mails between County Council members, all of them, part of the public business? You know some of those comments made in the e mails had comments on political leanings, personalities as well as other information you might not want to share. There is a public right to know but just how much? This is a tough one. I’d issue all of them on a disc, charge a fair fee and then use this as a reminder that sometimes one must think before they hit the send button.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED………..that CSPAN already started its show “The Road to the White House: 2016 this past Sunday. Presidential politics is indeed a cottage industry.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED……..the average sea turtle can’t reproduce until its 25 years old. I bet you there are a lot of grandmas and Poppies wishing the same thing for their own kids as they, in some cases, become the sole support of their kid’s unplanned pregnancies.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED……and glad that the Woodlands stepped in (for half the proceeds) to help La Tolteco, the great Mexican Restaurant on Mundy Street in Wilkes Barre hold their Cinco De Mayo celebration this past Sunday. The eatery had a fire a few weeks back and this union gave the restaurant the opportunity to continue its tradition as well as give area residents a chance to keep the celebration going. Equally amazing is the number of workplaces in the area that have Cinco Celebrations.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED………..that there seems to be mounting pressure on the Frightened Forty Seven Senators who opposed background checks on guns in America. When 90% of the American public, even NRA members think it is a good idea, how can they vote against it? They say they are standing on principle. I wish they did that when we had two wars in the first part of this century that killed thousands of Americans without a good result and hemorrhaged our economy to the point of collapse. They had no trouble saying yes to all of that garbage back then but when it comes to saving lives, they stand with the NRA.And take a look at this video where the daughter of a school shooting victim asks the Cowardly Lioness what she thinks about her gun vote.
