This week the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released the final version of the Clean Power Plan, which will place the first ever limits on carbon pollution from power plants. U.S Representative Matt Cartwright released the following statement: “The Clean Power Plan sets a clear path towards America’s energy future, a plan that will protect public health, invest in clean, renewable energy development, boost energy efficiency measures, and lower electric bills in the long run.
“The plan strengthens our economy and communities in large part through an emphasis on energy efficiency. This year I have introduced three pieces of legislation which address energy efficiency within our schools, non-profit organizations, and manufacturing. I remain committed to promoting energy efficiency and will continue to fight in support of this initiative.”
MEANWHILE
BARLETTA SAYS THIS IS ANOTHER OBAMA OVERREACH ON ENERGY
Congressman Lou Barletta, of the 11th issued a statement regarding President Obama’s announcement of his “Clean Power Plan,” which will require a 32 percent reduction in power plant emissions by 2030. The plan is another example of the Obama Administration expanding the War on Coal, ruling through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and bypassing Congress. The plan will set unrealistic goals for emissions limits, drive energy prices higher, and cost jobs in the private sector.“This will drive up energy costs, which will have a negative effect across all sectors of the economy, threatening job creation as well. The rule will make it more expensive to cool houses in the summer, and heat homes in the winter. The cost of manufacturing will increase, along with the prices of goods and services. The EPA regulations are an enormous, purposeful, artificial drag on the economy aimed at controlling people’s behavior more than protecting the environment.
“Americans don’t want to be governed by faceless Washington, DC bureaucrats at the EPA. It’s an unfortunate fact for the Obama Administration, but the U.S. Constitution provides a legislative role for Congress, and it cannot be continuously ignored.
