We have become a nation of the “good enough” syndrome. The occasional manager will send cheerful positive e mails asking people to exceed their talents and do more. We are told that we are a country that still is the very best. But we aren’t.
We have become a nation of “that’ll do” or “good enough”. All you have to do is look at the recent revelations regarding the Secret Service. They are supposed to the cream of the crop. Jesus is they can’t protect a President, what chance does an average citizen have these days?
The recent news that a man carrying a knife got within breathing distance of the East Room. Plus if he had the guile to make a right toward the stairs he would be in the living quarters. I I have been to a number of events where Presidential candidates and Presidents were on the scene. More than I can count going back to 1968. The people I was with, media, friends, politicos, every banner under which we attended had to go through rigorous screening process. What happened? Is it because the screw ups are more public or is it because we are screwing up? Or is it because “it’s just good enough?”
If this attitude had prevailed during World War II (although I can’t imagine the Greatest Generation being a bunch of slackers) we’d be speaking German right now.
