Perhaps one of the most consequential Presidents in American history, Franklin Delano Roosevelt is still remembered as a strong force in democracy. His social programs were ones that have stood the test of time and has helped generations of Americans lead a better life.
In death, FDR is still honored and mourned. But in reality as President, he was vilified as a dictator. by the opposition party. It should be noted that the GOP of that generation stood in the way of many programs, especially Social Security.
He had faults but inspiring Americans and doing right by those disenfranchised was not one of them. Here's an account of the day he died.
