The President said he may not stay in the Climate Change agreement that 94 nations voluntarily joined last summer. There are only three countries not in. Ready? Syria!
Nicaragua!
and the United States.
Now this is non binding but really, this “leader” has shunned the advice of scientists and will listen to a Cabinet member who sued the EPA unsuccessfully numerous times.
The REPUBLICAN LIE machine is alive and well saying that this agreement will eliminate industrial based energy jobs. 70,000 coal mining jobs are at stake vs thousands of alternative energy jobs.
If he leaves this deal, alternative energy jobs will be lost here. And they will go to China and India! So the energy future will not belong to us and we'll be beholden to other entities again. Just like we were to foreign oil for so many years.
I’m in my 60s so I shouldn’t give a rat’s ass about any of this. By the time the ramifications of this hit, I’ll be in my new home across from the 30 MPH sign on Middle Road in that Mausoleum. But the kids and grand kids of the Trump voter will have a hellish environmental life because of this very stupid, uninformed dense man that people gave the reins to.
TRUMP UNITING THE COUNTRY!!!
JUST NOT OURS
(Photo: AP)
Martin Schultz is German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s main opponent in their election this year. But Schultz has slammed President Trump’s ignorant treatment of Merkel. He said, “No freely elected head of government in our country should allow him — or herself — to be humiliated in this way, the way [Trump], like an autocratic leader, believed he could inflict humiliation in Brussels. Election campaign or no election campaign, in this situation let me be entirely clear: The chancellor represents all of us at summits like these. And I reject with outrage the way this man takes it upon himself to treat the head of our country’s government. That is unacceptable.”
Trump has pissed off our biggest ally! He has no clue what the trade deficit with Germany means and has united both contenders in the race.
He has united a country…..but done so by his spectacular ignorance and lack of respect as he undermines what this country, the United States, built!
JIM BUNNING
Me and Jim Bunning at Valley Forge, Pa. (Photo: LuLac archives).
One of my boyhood baseball heroes Jim Bunning passed away Friday night. Bunning pitched a no hitter for the Detroit Tigers in the American League and then that momentous 1964 Father’s Day Perfect game on June 21st, 1964. Bunning, number 14 had the most incredible follow through I ever say on a right hander. The ’64 Phillies collapsed in the stretch because the Manager Gene Mauch pitched Bunning and Chris Short on two day rest. I always felt that if Mauch had used a few Triple A pitchers (they had 40 guys on the roster after September 1, Bunning and Short would have had their stamina back. But I was 10 then and what the hell did I know! Bunning was elected to Congress and then the U.S. Senate where he pretty much was totally opposite in most things I believed politically.
But for baseball……………………he was one of “my guys”. I met Bunning in 1982 at a baseball card show in Valley Forge. I got two sprained ankles the day before playing basketball in my back yard but I went.
It was the first time I met Bunning and the last time I touched a basketball.
REPS. CARTWRIGHT, POSEY INTRODUCE BIPARTISAN BILL TO INCREASE GOVERNMENT TRANSPARENCY
Congressman Matt Cartwright (Photo: LuLac archives)
U.S. Representatives Matt Cartwright (D-PA) and Bill Posey (R-FL) re-introduced legislation to make federal agency settlements more transparent. The bipartisan Truth in Settlements Act would require federal agencies to publicly disclose the terms of non-confidential settlements obtained from offenders. U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and James Lankford (R-OK) introduced companion legislation in the Senate. This legislation would require federal agencies to disclose whether any portion of a non-confidential settlement is potentially tax deductible and post information about these settlements on their websites. Additionally, federal agencies would be required to provide an explanation if a settlement is deemed confidential.
“This bill is a commonsense measure to increase settlement transparency and accountability,” said Rep. Cartwright. “Taxpayers deserve to know key terms of these settlement agreements. If an agency reaches a settlement with an offender, then that agency must be willing to disclose the terms of the agreement or provide a good reason for not doing so.”
“When the law is broken and federal agencies decide to settle cases and impose massive fines, the public has a right to know why and what the details of such settlement agreements are,” Rep. Posey said. “This legislation will add more sunshine to the process and lead to more accountability for wrong doing in both the private and public sectors.”
Federal agencies often tout the topline amount of settlements obtained from offenders. All too often, this value is misleading because tax deductions built into the settlement reduce the settlement’s true value. Worse, agencies can deem settlements confidential without explanation, preventing public scrutiny altogether.
“Government accountability requires transparency, and that's what this bipartisan bill provides,” Sen. Warren said. “The Truth in Settlements Act will shut down backroom deal-making by shining a light on federal agency settlements with lawbreaking companies. More transparency means Congress, citizens, and watchdog groups can better hold regulatory agencies accountable for enforcing laws so that everyone - even corporate CEOs - are equal under the law.”
